That's sort of my point.  It's just a name.

Somewhere along the line it was decided to go to beta. Would you release a suboptimal 4.0 because you really want to adhere to this connotative meaning of beta? Or would you rather say, "hey, maybe we jumped the gun a little early, so let's overlook this is a 'beta' and do things right?"

With that said, I think the devs are doing a fine job. So far, pragmatism has seemed to prevail.
