Hi Howard,

Sun has shown no interest in taking code from individual
developers; they've turned me down for even auditor
access to JSR-127, and turned me down twice for sessions
at JavaOne.

It seems to me that the JCP is pretty much closed to people/companies who are not members and do not have influence on the Executive Committees. In other words, it appears that the only way for open source projects to influence the process in one way or another, no matter how great they are, passes through the Apache Jakarta project.

If the voting on JSR-127 is any indication, it also appears that Apache are fairly protective of their own turf (Struts), and are apparently oblivious to its faults.

I am curious, have you ever talked to them about Tapestry? Would joining them be an acceptable proposition (since it would most certainly bring instant additional recognition of Tapestry)? I admit that I don't know much about the fine details of the situation, so I don't have a personal opinion either way.

Btw, does anyone actually know anything more specific about JSF? In the docs they put out they talk about components, but also talk about JSP and tag libraries. That looks like a weird mix (Tapestry with JSP-based templates? Hrm.)
