Keeping the session alive

Is there any way to keep a session alive while users fill out a form 
that could take a long time? I have the session set to expire after 10 
minutes, but my students could be doing an online quiz that takes 
longer. Is there an easy way to re-activate the session or something 
after students submit their quiz?
