I do have updated your work Erik on Tapestry decorators with Picasso.
Should I send another patch to the JIRA issue you created on SiteMesh?

I think it may be premature to provide a patch for the Tapestry SiteMesh decorators that work with Picasso as things may still change that affect it. I need to bug the SiteMesh crew to commit the patch for 3.0.x, and if we start adding more to it they'll be less likely to commit it as it would be seen as unstable.

So I guess, not a lot of Tapestry users are using SiteMesh :-(

If you're building a pure Tapestry application, SiteMesh doesn't offer any advantages. Only when you're mixing and matching view technologies does it add value. And even without that patch, you can SiteMesh a Tapestry application with other decorators such as Velocity or JSP.

I'll try to dig a bit in the source code of the service encoders...

And it would be especially important to have this issue fixed before submitting a patch to SiteMesh.
