"Re" does not stand for "regarding"; in fact, it's not English at
all. It is the Latin word "re", the ablative case of "res" which
means "thing". Thus, "Re:" means something like "From the thing:" and
is not an abbreviation.
Feel free to express your linguistic pride by replacing "Re:" with
whatever you wish, but realize that you're not thwarting an
Anglocentric plot to take over the world, but are instead trying to
beat an already dead language, a fact that's particularly ironic if
one speaks a Romance language as the "Réf. :" above indicates. :-)
