Maybe you should use prepareForRender( IRequestCycle p_cycle ) method...

If you use your component in a block (e.g. render it using
RenderBlock), then that listener is not invoked.

It is not being called at all.
Maybe because it is being used in a block? Although that should not
matter I think.
