I downloaded Java15Release1.dmg twice and received an invalid checksum each
time. I can mount it with hdid and skip the checksum error but am a bit
concerned about doing this.
Did you get an invalid checksum on the download?

I haven't tried building Tapestry lately with it, but I'm running 1.5 on
Mac OS X just fine:
