I guess the same way commons-lang were, although there is new version of it that doesn't have conflicts with JDK1.5 enum keyword. Everyone strives for fewer number of them because of possible jar hell inside some containers, less worries of downloading it from somewhere, and generally grasping any framework structure and it's requirements is easier if there are fewer of dependencies.

Is BSF library used only because of <listener-binding> feature in 3.0 ?
Does
anyone uses it?
If none seems interested in this feature anymore, and dependency is there
solely because of it, maybe it could all be removed in 4.0?
