We have Tapestry 4 in production since 4.0-alpha-3 ;-) I have mails
every time someone reaches an error and I didn't got any one caused by
Tapestry (ok, we sould upgrade to beta-2 one day anyway, but we don't
realy feel the need...)
Since the betas, features are frozen (ok, at most, I've seen one -minor-
exception). I think you can eval (and eventually begin developping)
without any problem.
Well, unfortunately not too many shops are allowed to do this. Being new to Tapestry I wouldn't
allow myself to go to a client and present a solution based on an alpha or beta release (considering
also the big changes it incorporates).

we are new to Tapestry and is currently in eval mode. So we figure we may as
well wait for 4.0 to be released instead of working with 3.x
is there a planned (tenative) date for 4.0 to be generally available?
thanks.
Some time ago i have asked the same question and the answer was that most probably the final 4.0
will become available end of august - september. I haven't noticed changes in this plan so far.
