What if you are trying to use dynamic parameters?
Can I, for instance, have a text area in an applet that submits the
content of the text box as part of a Tapestry form?

Unless you're needing to intermix the applet's functionality with
functionality provided by Tapestry (in the form of dynamic paramters),
it should work identically. Tapestry doesn't do any special magic to
tags outside of those identified with the jwcid tag. If it's not showing
up, I'd look at making sure it's on the classpath correctly in the
Tapestry-ized version.
