You could use the include component here, too
(http://www.tapestrycomponents.org/Tassel/app?service=external/ViewComponent&sp=SInclude)
generate an asset in your code, and pass the
asset parameter to the include component.
It will "include" the excel file as an iframe (you can specify the width
 and height), and it will also correctly detect the excel filetype and
add the appropriate information to the iframe.

Alternatively, someone has posted a "DownloadLink" on tassel; I haven't
used it, so I can't vouch for it, but it may suit your needs.
