Hi, I am thinking of using tarsnap as a simple replacement for amanda. That means I want to backup the whole freebsd server periodically and in the case of a crash restore it with the fixit live cd.
Usually dump/restore is recommended for this use case, but what about tarsnap? Is it possible, are there any caveats? Does someone use tarsnap for this and tested a full restore? Sure, it is possible to use tarsnap just to backup /home, /etc, /usr/local/etc and install a new system, build all ports again... but this is not what i want, i really want a full backup.
