Tarsnap deduplicates an archive which is being created against the data in all *currently existing* archives. This includes truncated archives which are created from checkpoints if tarsnap fails (because once the checkpoint is recovered, it forms an archive just like any other) but does not include archives which have failed (because if you don't have a checkpoint to recover from, a partial upload is useless and will be thrown away). > I just saw your signature mentions 'Emeritus'. In fact, I stepped down from that position a couple years ago specifically so that I could spend more time on Tarsnap. Tarsnap is here to stay. :-) -- Colin Percival Security Officer Emeritus, FreeBSD | The power to serve Founder, Tarsnap | www.tarsnap.com | Online backups for the truly paranoid
