Try giving it a -SIGUSR1 (or SIGINFO, which can be generated with CTRL-T): https://www.tarsnap.com/tips.html#check-current That won't tell you exactly what's happening, but at least you'll be able to tell if there's any progress or not. Cheers, - Graham
