Venue: Room LG 34, David Kier Building, Queen's University of Belfast. About Peter Sanders: PETER SANDERS is a professional photographer with 30 years of experience behind him. His professional career in photography began during the mid-sixties where he photographed most of the major stars in the music business including Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Who, the Rolling Stones, etc. In the 1970�s and 1980�s he travelled extensively in remote areas of the world, commissioned by magazines, publishers, and Aid Agencies. His enthusiasm for studying religion introduced him to Islam whose spiritual beauty left an indelible impression upon him. He says that photography really is a gift from God: "Its a wonderful process, you learn so much about yourself by doing it. Often when I'm taking pictures it seems as if I'm chasing a moment, like a beautiful bird that keeps escaping you." Establishing the Peter Sanders Photographic Library in the mid 1980�s, his clients are varied from International publishers large and small, Advertising agencies, Television companies, Marketing agencies, Designers, Fine art Publishers, and more. The BBC made a documentary about Peter Sanders and his work and was shown on BBC1. YA�QUB ZAKI was educated at the Universities of Glasgow, Barcelona, and Granada. He was formerly Lecturer in Islamic Theology at the University of Lancaster and has also held academic appointments at the Universities of Manchaster and Harvard-MIT. His main research interests are in the field of Muslim Spain and Islamic theology and liturgiology. He was chief adviser to the World of Islam Festival (1974-1976) in London. In 1975, Dr. Zaki published an edition (with translation) of the Diwan of Ibn Shuhayd al-Andalusi, and he has also published articles in various academic journals and has contributed to the Encyclopaedia Britannica. He is currently preparing a monograph entitled Alhambra - A Functional Analysis. YAHYA BIRT graduated in Comparative Religion in 1996 from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) of the University of London. During his study he concentrated on both Muslims in the West and Islamic Thought. He has undertaken Arabic and Islamic studies at the Qarawiyyin University, Fes, Morocco. He is particularly interested in the spiritual dimension of Islam. He is currently undertaking an M.Phil. in Social Anthropology at Oxford University.
