There was a Utube video of that Joshua Bell "street performance" I saw a couple of years ago. What got me as much as anything is how few people even bothered to LOOK in his direction, much less stop and listen.
My thinking on busking is it is moist about entertainment. I did my fair share of busking when I moved to Seattle in the late 70s and saw a lot of other buskers. The most successful I saw was a string band, very below average in sound, but had a great act. They would play a few notes, then all stare at the open case until the crowd dropped in some money, then repeated many times. Finally after enough was paid, they would play a whole tune. This was done in a comedic pantomine way. They did this all day, every day and did very well. I played for 9 months with a guitarist who was a great showman. We made good money, even though we didn't sound great. I made much less with another guitarist who was not the showman, but we sounded much better. Go figure... --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Taterbugmando" group.
