A good alternative to the fiddler's fakebook is the mandolin pickers fakebook which is all in tab instead of those pesky "notes". I have been in the habit lately of finding as many versions of tunes I like in it and playing along with them. It is filled with common, and uncommon, tunes that are often played including sources to find recordings. happy hunting.
