I met Kenny back in my early days in California ... a thoroughly sweet
guy. Being blind, his first notion of how to play mandolin was up
under his chin like a fiddle, using a pizzicato motion, which was
probably the beginning of his unorthodox style. Now though he sets his
taterbug on his knee. The OTH article probably covers his Sweetsmill
Stringband (1970s) days. Much of that material has been reissued on
CD, maybe on Bay, which did the original LPs. Kenny also did a solo
album on Philo, which at one point I had memorized. I haven't seen
that out on CD, but if anyone is interested, I'll digitize some of it
when I'm home in Vermont in summer for anyone interested. Really worth
a listen. Glad Kenny's getting his due among mandolin players. He's an
original.
