Just found the video on YouTube via some other service. (I missed the Tonight Show.) It's worth watching, if you haven't seen. Here be the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTw8ksaTkHg
There are some exquisitely tasteful mandolin fills in this version of "Sulfur to Sugarcane." It is soooo cool to see Mike playing these venues. This makes me happier than a clam, and you all know how happy clams are. This is a great thing for mandolin playing, for Mike, for Monroe-style playing, and for just good, unpretentious, down-home picking. I, too, prefer the trimmed down ensemble, though I miss Jeff Taylor. The only thing that would make it better would be some mandolin solos! I caught the show live in Telluride and liked it quite a bit, though I'm not a huge Elvis fan. (Hell, I even bought the CD after hearing the band live!) I like Stuart and Jerry, but I was disappointed that they got the only solos in the show I saw. Big waste of talent in not giving Mike and Jeff an opportunity to let 'er rip. I expect Elvis to call me any time now and ask my critique; I assure you all I shall set him straight. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Taterbugmando" group.
