Hey all
I'm heading off on Thursday for three days of blues in Cazorla, in a moorish
town with an 11th century castle, placed in a valley right on the edge of
some wild mountains. I get to stay in a house with a castle view across the
valley and hopefully I can get into the concerts free with my mate who is on
the bill (plays drums with Raimundo Amador who is the missing link between
blues and flamenco and a wild sounding guy). As most of the concerts start
between midnight and 3.30 am and go on until an unspecified time, I suspect
the atmosphere will be er... 'relaxed'. Also it will be 40 degrees at the
hottest part of the day.. Cazorla is a town with huge cliffs overhanging it,
where vultures fly, and gypsy guitarists practice their stuff outside where
everyone can see them and their friends clap and dance. The streets are
incredibly narrow and steep and it's really easy to get a car terminally
stuck between the whitewashed houses.

I was looking on the bill for mando content - of the US people, there's
Watermelon Slim , Susan Tedeschi, Robben Ford and the Chicago Blues Revue -
I suspect the latter may have something, but it seems to be a rotating
lineup.... I'm hoping to get to jam with somebody - probably not a surfeit
of mandolins there I reckon, so there should be options. There's some great
mountain walking from the town, but I suspect it may be tricky to get
started...

If I can't get to Merlefest, see Grier and Compton and all that stuff, at
least I can make y'all a little bit jealous !
