Yep, seems like everybody has different body chemistry. I never wipe down my strings, but sometimes after loan my instrument to another player, I'd wish they did. The whole neck and strings and all can just get kinda gunked up. And then there are players who sweat quarts into my guitar strap and get it all saturated.... I rarely sweat much myself. Well, everybody is different.
I guess wipe your strings if you think they need it. Just try it and see. I have a friend who uses hand lotion and when I borrow her pick I can barely hold onto it. So I don't borrow it if I can help it.
