Hello! I've been a full time lurker for quite a while now, reading your posts with great enthusiasm but never contributing myself. I'll try to make a change and pull my share around here from now on...
My name is Oskar Nyman and I live in Sweden. I'm 34 years old, have two small kids and I work as a high school art and design teacher. Jonas Mattebo, another group member, is my pickin' buddy and he introduced me to this group. We live in the same town in the north of the country and we have our monthly jam at a local café. I play a Kimble A5, had it for about a year now, and I'm more than pleased... simply awesome! I also play guitar, fiddle, tenor guitar and mandola... but I consider the mandolin to be my main instrument. I truely enjoy the style of playing Mr. Compton employs, and I've listened to Mr. Monroe quite a lot in my days, but I wouldn't say that I play a whole lot like them. They give me inspiration, and I do steal a couple of moves, but I strive to find my own voice. I have a quite eclectic approach to my playing. Other mandolinists I like and try to learn from are Chris Thile (dare I say?), Don Stiernberg and Andy Statman. Representatives of very different styles. My aim is to melt it all togehter and make it my own. Hence I'm not a bluegrass or Monroe stylist by far, but sure appreciate those who are and that kind of music. Well, just wanted to say hi and give a brief introduction. Cheers // Oskar Nyman
