I woke up the other day thinking about Mike's description of "rubbing
out" - I think I might have mentioned here some time ago that I didn't
get it. Well that morning I woke up, and I think I understood what he
meant. My interpretation is that the "rubbing out" motion made as you
are erasing pencil marks, means you are keeping the pick tip in a
plane. That makes gobs of sense to me.

Yesterday I tried that description out on a student who was having
trouble making the pick get both strings in a course. It worked! She
understands a little better now.
