I was watching the Bill Monroe video on the folkstreams site the other day and got to wondering. Did the fact that Monroe wore a suit coat, French cuffs and cuff links influence his style, particularly his posture/right hand? The one time I've ever worn all that stuff and played mandolin (my own wedding reception) I played two warm-up chucks and made my new bride take out my link and roll up my sleeve, cuz the link got caught up in my behind-the-bridge strings and I didn't feel like focusing on fixing it. On a few occaisions I've worn a suit coat and played and felt I had to hold my hand different. Normally I wear short sleeves.
