I always wonder about mandolin in an old-time setting. Its not a fiddle. Seems like the Tater managed a good run through to suit a mandolin - banjo duo. Mighty fast pickin too. How many ideas are there out there ...for mando and guitar or mando and fiddle duo, mando and banjo duo, playing old time, how many possibilities or approaches have folks seen or thought of? In groups here, doing old time tunes, mandolins are mainly wanted for chops, they can really help the rhythm but it can be boring. I keep looking for ideas for mando to play part tune and part chords...have found a few.
That is where Mr. Monroe comes in as I think he worked those ideas out pretty good. Looking and listening it seems to me he played double stops now and then, simplifying the melody, but went heavy and perhaps funky with right hand to boost, accent the rhythm side. That seems to be where he did his 'talking'. Solo ...well then one can show off the picking technique, also one can display great technique getting all the notes in with mando and guitar duo, me thinks. I would like to know more about Mrs. Haley's technique. It is a great tune hey? linda On Jul 29, 1:25 am, Dasspunk <[email protected]> wrote: > Howdy all, > > I put a copy of this file on my server for anyone that wants to > download it.
