Band in the Box can be a very useful practice aid. If you haven't jammed, it can be helpful as a way to practice listening while you play. Since it instantly can transpose and change tempos, it is also useful to help you build speed without losing your place in a song, and to play songs in different keys. Since it also can instantly change time signatures and feels, it can be a great tool to guess "How would this song sound in a different style."
BiaB is not a good substitute for playing music with real live people, but it can help you prepare to do it. Many BiaB files are available on line in many genres. As with all such resources, the quality of the files depends on the skill of the person who donated the files. I do not know of a Monroe-specific archive. Check out Jack Tuttle's website for over 150 old time and bluegrass tunes: http://www.jacktuttle.com/topten.html - scroll to the very bottom of the page for the download link. There's also a Yahoo group with hundreds of tunes in jazz, latin, country, Celtic, French, Italian, classical, military, pop, rock, religious, and more. It is at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Band-in-a-Box-Files Have fun! Topher On Mon, Sep 13, 2010 at 11:55 AM, Nelson <[email protected]> wrote: > Taternation, > > Any of you use "Band In A Box?"
