Aha. Yes, this may be because of a bug in Derby. We've switched to HSQLDB for the new version of the platform, but if you're unlucky you'll have picked up the older version of the archetype!
Can you check that your application is using Derby rather than HSQLDB? You can find this in the context-parts/dao_hibernate.xml file, there's an import statement near the top, if you're running derby it'll be : <import resource="hibernateprops_derby.xml" /> Let me know if you get this?
