Hello everybody, After a lot of user feedback on the activity palette in Taverna 2.0, we have tried to develop a more user-friendly version that is more like that of Taverna 1.7.
A draft of this is now in the nightly snapshot - http://tinyurl.com/c84gwr (the actual URL is very long :-) The "Activities" menu has been moved from the top and put into the service panel as the "Import new services" button. "Reload services" re-reads the services. You can now filter the tree of services, by typing in a word in the text box. It will dynamically filter the tree so you do not have to press enter. If you clear the filter then it restores the tree to how it was before you filtered. The filter mechanism currently looks at all the properties of the service, not just its name. That does mean that it can match services where the reason for the match is not immediately obvious. The alternative would be not to match all the "correct" services. The services are now organized in a more similar manner to 1.7 with the sub-trees varying according to the service type e.g. dataset (I think it is) for Biomart. All of the services that require configuration are now grouped under "Service templates". You get feedback on the state of the service loading. (This is currently at the bottom of the Service Panel itself.) You can now drag and drop into the workflow explorer. There is still quite a lot of work to do on the r-clicks for the tree e.g. remove from tree, add service to workflow. Any comments would be very welcome - especially about whether the current filter is sensible.
