Hi Alan, I don't know if this would be feasible but you could create a group at http://www.mendeley.com/ and add citation information to it. A simple link to a specific citation (almost like DOI) could solve the problem. But I think the main bottleneck would be to create the citations in Mendeley and then have a lookup table to reference from it.
Anyway, stable links to references should be preferred over sending the whole information each time.
