I have seen similar problems with Raven (Taverna 1 and 2's classloader) claiming that String or byte array does not exist. It does seem to happen when Taverna is unable to "talk to" the database, either because it is corrupt or because it is locked. It isn't anything to do with the StringConstant itself as I've seen it with other services.
