I chose IMAP on a clean install of the latest release.
The Bat shows the counter of how many unread messages and the total number of messages.
It does not show any messages other than the one the software sends you when you install, nor does it show the folders that have been created. When clicking on the counter the count disappears and only comes back when restarting The Bat.
