I  can't  answer  that, because I don't have any POP accounts which I 
send or collect mail with. My IMAP account collects all the mail from 
all  my  old  POP  accounts, and all my gmail gets forwarded there as 
well.  I  just  associate that behavior with IMAP because my deleted POP mail 
always  went  to  the  trash  folder, and I just compressed the other 
folders. It never occurred to me then to look for deleted mail in the 
folder  where  it  originated. But sometimes one does want to do that 
with IMAP.
