IMAP speed is back, the Manage IMAP Folders dialog box pops up quickly, so life is good. There are some inconsistencies: several mails in various folders stay marked as unread, and I can't move or delete them, either. This is somewhat a pain, because I depend on the bolded mail counts showing in the folder tree to check that I've read important mails from various clients and topics.
