This is (most probably) neither a defect nor is the change an
improvement, but simply the way IMAP is supposed to work: When you
scan a folder, you see what messages are there (shaded envelope.) Only
when you explicitly select a message this message (and only this
message) is downloaded and displayed in full (solid envelope.)


The change may be due to either one of those:

a) You changing the settings in "manage IMAP folders"/"download 
settings" (from "normal" to "full".)

b) TheBat suddenly honouring the setting that always had been selected
in the first place (TheBat hasn't the greatest track record when it
comes to IMAP handling.)

c) You changing the account from IMAP to POP (where all messages are 
automatically downloaded.)

d) Google modifying its abysmal mail system to pretend a little more 
to conform to IMAP.
