I had a very similar issue quite regularly ever since I started using IMAP for one of my accounts (about two years ago). I no longer remember the exact words in the Connection Centre, but in essence everything would wait endlessly for a [just sent] message to be copied into the Sent folder. Trying to find a solution on the web, I realized that the same problem happens quite often to Thunderbird users too, and in one of their forums someone suggested to limit the number of concurrent connections to the IMAP server to just one as a solution. I tried doing the same in The Bat! and never had this problem since. In short, go to IMAP Fine-Tune under Mail management in your IMAP account properties, and uncheck Allow up to ## connections. Maybe having it set to one will work the same - logically, it should. See if that helps.
