Heartily agreed! :-)

S> I'm afraid, you do not understand what plain text is - it's just a

To me, tabs, spaces, carriage returns and line feeds are part and parcel
of 'plain text'. They should not be ignored, replaced or erased.

(except maybe for any useless trailing tabs/spaces at the ends of lines)

In the old days, plain text 'formatting' never led to any problems
because all we had was fixed-width characters. And frankly, I think
MicroED should not use any proportional fonts either. I don't see how
it makes sense to use proportional fonts in a plain-text editor.

A text file that truly has no formatting at all -just endless lines
that each represent a paragraph- used to be called 'flat text'. Again
in the old days, if you were writing a book or an article, you often
had to submit flat text so that an editor could import it in his
publishing software and format it himself.

S> Tabs have no meaning for plain text with variable width characters
S> because there is no way to define tab stops.

If no other tab size has been set, it should default to 8 spaces wide.

S> Paragraph indents and margins cannot be defined for plain
S> text either.

They can, simply by indenting the text with tabs and/or spaces!

Provided that you use a fixed font, of course! :]

S> If you want to use all this typography stuff in email,
S> you have to use HTML at least,

Boo, hiss! HTML is an attachment, not e-mail. Shame on Microsoft for
foisting HTML upon us.

I hope that MicroEd in The Bat v9 will work just like it does in v8. It
isn't perfect but at least it does allow for some basic forma^H^H^H^H^H
structuring.

Best,

-Daniel-
