I see. That whole "soft line wrapping" issue was new to me - I had 
seen that quotes were shown differently, but not yet wondered 
enough about it to really notice. :-)

Yes, a command like you suggest would be very helpful. But you wouldn't need a 
new shortkey for it, would you? If "soft wrapping" is active, join lines on 
Alt-L. If it is not, use the traditional logic. Or is there a reason why you 
would want to have both functions available at the same time?


(BTW: I switched back and forth between "soft wrapping" enabled or not during 
creation of this message, and this is what I ended up with: The upper paragraph 
has hard wrapping, the lower one soft wrapping. But I can't use Alt-L to 
reformat the upper paragraph to look like the lower one while "soft wrapping" 
is ENabled. The other direction works (DISable "soft wrapping", then use 
Alt-L), but not the other way round. Is this intentional?)
