It's a marketing gag which makes people using a virus scanner feeling safe (although they are not) and makes people receiving such message safe although they are not. > Well certainly. TB! extracts the attachment from a mail. Gives it to the plugin. AV removes the virus. Attachment is imported back to TB!. Mail is clean. The virus scanners I know either check the data 'stream' coming from a pop3 server (but are not able to manipulate it), or they scan file 'on access' (in this case, the messages.tbb).
