Hello The Bat! developers, I'm using The Bat! Version 1.54 Beta/20 Serial Number 49B7D17A under Windows 98 4.10 Build 67766446 A and would like to report a number of bugs in the Connection Center.
The bug descriptions: Serious: - No timeout when "Connecting to Server", or when the server for some reason does not deliver any more. The latter had my Connection Center hanging for 3 hours, downloading message #35 of 87, until I deleted the task manually. Reproducable, if you have a problematic POP server. This bug has been reported by several users earlier. You can also try to reproduce it by closing your firewall while downloading, I would think. Suggested remedy: if no packet raffic is detected for a period of time (2 minutes?), the task should be deleted automatically. Annoying: - If a Send function is initiated but the task is deleted *while* the message is being sent, the message cannot be sent at a later time. It is still in the Outbox, but hitting the Send button results in a dialog box stating "Nothing to send". In order to send the message, it needs to be reopened in the editor and put back into the Outbox, or TB must be closed an reopened. This bug has been confirmed by other users. - If a message is opened from the Outbox *while* being sent, it will still be sent. A copy of the sent message will end up in the Send Messages folder, parked. Another copy of the message will be in the Outobx again. Suggested remedy: when a message is being seent, it should either not be possible to open it again (preferred), or the send process should be aborted. - When a task is highlighted (focussed) and an earlier task is finished, the focus will stay on the task number, not on the task itself. So the next task is suddenly highlighted. The focus should stay on the task, even if it is advanced from being task number 2 to task number 1. To reproduce it there must be a next task, which will become number 2, of course. It is reliably reproducable over here, could someone kindly confirm. - The task names and times are only refreshed when a change of state is detected, such as from "Connecting" to "Authenticating", or from "Normal" to "Focussed/Highlighted". This means that when nothing happens (Conecting to server for several minutes), times stands still. It also means that when task 2 out of 4 is finished, task 1 will now get the name of task 2, but task 2, which is what was formerly task 3, will still show the name of task 3 (in the second line, i.e. task 2). So the same task name will be shown in lines 1 and 2 until a refresh takes place (see beginning of this paragraph). Could someone kindly confirm. Other category: - While it is possible to change the size of the Connection Center window, the Maximise button is greyed out. It should be possible to maximise the Connection Center with one this one windows-standrd click, rather than having to drag the edges. The greyed-put button also lets people believe that it is not possible to change the size at all. - A wish rather than a bug: The log should show the actual dialogue between TB and the POP3/SMTP server; this is useful for connection error analysis. I find myself telnetting into ports 110 and 25 of my respective servers when connections keep failing. Anybody care to second this wish? - Misnomer: The download speed is said to be in CPS (characters per second). This is wrong every time you download a message in a double-byte character set. It should be BPS (bytes per second). Steps to reproduce the bugs: They are all reproducable reliably over here; if the above descriptions are not clear, please ask. The advantage of my cable connection is the flat rate, but the speed can be below 1000 bps (don't ask...). With a lot of messages, the "wrong task highlighted" issue is real and quite annoying. The Send issues can easily be preproduced if you try with large messages, as otherwise it might be difficult for you to catch the message *while* being sent. However, easily reproducable, also by accident, over here. The missing timeout is the only serious bug, but if you are working on the Connection Center anyway, please fix the other things as well. The above list is ordered by importance; but I know you will just fix all of them in one go, won't you. ;-) Thanks. Regards, Thomas Fernandez. -- _________________________________________________________ Archives : http://tbbeta.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Latest Beta: 1.54 beta/15 Wish List : http://wish.thebat.dutaint.com
