Check 'Start' / 'Einstellungen' / 'Systemsteuerung' / 'Tastatur'
There's on the second tab at the bottom an option 'Taskbar Icon
aktivieren'. Enable this and have a look when in The Bat! what this
icon displays. You can change the setting to 'German' with _left_
clicking on icon and choose the language.

For non-germans: 'Start' / 'Settings' / 'control Panel' / 'Keyboard'.
Second tab is 'Input Locales', option is named 'Enable indicator on
taskbar'.

IIRC W2K has the capability to remember what language used for what
application. If you accidentally switched the keyboard language when
in The Bat! with key shortcut it this could be the effect.

Best would be to disable 'Hot Keys' for switching language, if you're
already there.

It's not over until the FAT table sings
