The problem is clearly with the server - most probably, it does not
handle UIDs well.

I presume, other clients are simply not using UIDs - this is why "they
don't have a problem". From my PoV, using of UIDs is much safer and
quicker, especially for disconnected use and for working in
environments where multi-user access to folders is possible.
