Guess I haven't stated my case so well <g>: - 50,000 messages most imported from Unix format very few with a MID header; - no compression or deletions ever (I want access to the enire base for reference purposes); - performing file maintenance on the base is fine. No problems. And I notice the same thing in other imported message bases with smaller (5k to 10k) messages. This delay is really not that big a deal in practice, just a bit annoying. I've never had this quantity of items inside TB before so I don't know how its database behaves. It didn't even hiccup when importing all the messages.
