There's an option in the account propterties, 'IMAP fine tune' options
to compress folders on exiting.
Works here for me.
I think it was fixed since beta 28 so it should be working for you.
As you can see we're up to beta/33 and the last 3 betas have included
IMAP fixes to I suggest getting it.
