Ok, since people have been posting a few messages having problems
with IMAP and TLS, I created a mail account on my server that
supports POP3, IMAP4, and TLS for you all to use to test your
configurations.
*** NOTE: You can connect to check mail, but the server will dump
anything you try to send through it.
Here is the info:
POP/IMAP address: mail.pcwize.com
Username: tbtest
Password: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (that's a zero not an 'Oh')
You can connect just like that to test the connectivity before
moving on to TLS.
To enable TLS for the IMAP or POP, edit the account properties
/ Transportation and change the Connection to "Secure to regular
port (STARTLS)".
Don't go changing any ports.
The first time you connect TLS on either POP or IMAP, you'll get a
dialog asking if you want to accept the certificate.
Two options:
1. You can click "OK" to accept it and it'll be valid for just that
connection. This is handy if you want to test multiple times.
2. You can click "Add to trusted" and it'll stick mail.pcwize.com in
the address book under Trusted Root CA, and you won't have to
accept the certificate any more after that.
If you did the second option and want to revert back to having to
choose the certificate (i.e. you tested POP and now want to test
IMAP), just delete the mail.pcwize.com entry from your addressbook.
Have fun with it. If you decide to abuse it, please abuse it by
sending e-mail to yourself. It shouldn't allow anyone to send e-mail
with that account, but I've been known to miss stuff before! <grin>
If you find you can send mail with it, please let me know so I can
correct it.
I was trying to think of a way to keep a static message in the inbox
so you all could see it, but the first person to POP is going to
kill that.
BTW, if you want to create any additional folders, be my guest, but
please don't delete any.
