The X-Face is a plugin yes. Right now it is only capable of displaying the "standard" X-Face tags (black and white). I'm trying to convince the author to let it display gif and jpg images too. As for having people's images show up in messages, go to: http://www.pcwize.com/thebat and create an account. Then grab the Rogues.ZIP file and extract *all* the files to your The Bat!/images folder.
