I'll agree with MUA, it's most likely a misbehaving sent filter. Try disabling all your sent filters and see what happens. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to find out which one (if any) is causing the problem. If you cannot disable them or if that doesn't help, try to delete all your filters by renaming the .srb and .srx files (not deleting, you want to be able to get them back, right?).
