I just deleted a folder which had two filters moving messages to it, one incoming and one outgoing.
The incoming filter was automatically changed to move messages to \\account\Inbox instead. The outgoing filter was not changed and still pointed to the now non existent folder. Confirmations? I did not try sending a message before deleting the filter.
