I'm no expert, but I'm running a 233MMX pentium 256 ram on a 1996
motherboard. I run a firewall, AV, Ad-Aware plugin and a couple of
other behind the scenes programs for trojans. Along with TheBat!
process usage during this message is running between 25 + 38%.

With this old board and processor, the things you describe are things
that happen when I have slightly fragmented partitions. Sounds crazy,
but the bat fragments so bad on this machine and slows it down to a
crawl if I don't defrag ever 4 days. I have TheBat! on it's own
partition, IE on it's own partition along with other temp files. I
have to say, another reason I have a huge slow down is with batxxx.tmp
files which can range into the thousands, during some of the betas.
If I carry that baggage around I crawl around...

I don't know if that information will help, but I thought you should
know that if an old 233 can run all this stuff, than you might want to
look at how your other programs are interacting with each other as a
possible problem. Try defragging these older CPU's, I'm also running
version three on a 486 25hz, nothing runs fast on that machine, but it
runs unless there is a lot of fragmentation. I keep that machine
defragged often, it is not used very much for obvious reasons...

Well at 22% overall usage and THeBat! at 1-8% usage while typing this
post I shall close and hope something might help. I hate it when this
thing runs like a snail. Good luck.
