If that is an issue, you can always edit a message the "hard" way.
Save it to disk, and then edit the subject line by opening the message
in any text editor. Then import the message back into TB.

Well, it could make life easier sometimes. But I can also see this
capability being abused, much to the annoyance of recipients of
TB-generated mail. So I don't support the request.
