The trout is the fish used in the Asterix comic books by the fish
dealer called Verleihnix in German (don't know his name in other
languages). He slaps people with this dead and wet and apparently
smelly fish when they do something wrong.

Some people say this is the origin of "trouting" by moderators. Others
say the word has its origin in the usenet and has nothing to do with
Asterix and Obelix, and Leif was the first one to use it on a TB list.
